All the while we&apos;ve been hard at work making Recommended Systems a better experience. This includes quality of life improvements and building some of the capabilities that we&apos;ve missing.</p><p>One of those is email monitoring. We tested an early version during Black Friday and it came in very useful for monitoring and comparing the promotions our competitors were running. Having passed the bar during peak email season, we&apos;re now launching it for everyone.</p><p>But enough lead in. What are the updates?</p><hr><h1 id="new-updates">New Updates</h1><h2 id="launching-email-monitoring">Launching &quot;Email Monitoring&quot;</h2><p>It&apos;s still in early iterations, but we&apos;re excited to announce the launch of our email monitoring tool. </p><p>It&apos;s super simple to get started with it:</p><ul><li>Go to any individual <code>Competitors</code> page and you&apos;ll find a unique email address. </li><li>Click to copy that email, and then use that to sign up for that compatitor&apos;s newsletter or mailing list. </li><li>Whenever an email comes in, you&apos;ll see it show up in the <code>Email Monitor</code> section, as well as on the homepage and competitor&apos;s page. You can click into the email to see what its all about, and we&apos;re working on adding flags and annotations as well.</li><li>Sometimes an email list will ask you to confirm your address. When we talked about a feature with it&apos;s &quot;name&quot;, it led to confusion. When we talked about a feature by its purpose, it would instantly click for folks. </p><p>So we took that to heart and renamed some of our core capabilities. You&apos;ll notice the new sidebar contains Competitors (formerly Org Manager), Web Monitor (formerly Radar), Email Monitor (we were going to give it a fancy name but didn&apos;t get around to it), Battle Cards, and Notes. You might see this terminology continue to evolve and match the way customers speak about the features.</p><p>We also noticed that as the competitors and capabilities added up, the sidebar could grow to be a bit unwieldy. I had the chance to speak with a few competitive research teams, customer success leaders, marketing agencies, and product strategists. Thank you, everyone who chatted with me!</p><p>The overarching theme was &quot;simplification&quot;. Most people are focused on solving specific, well-constrained problems in their day-to-day. They value solutions to those problems and often don&apos;t have the bandwidth (or interest) in deviating too far from that area to explore other opportunities. Sometimes, it&apos;s because there&apos;s no reward in the exploration, only costs and learning curves. Other times it&apos;s because those challenges fall outside of their area of ownership. On calls that veered into sales/pitching territory, I observed that people are interested only in a subset of features and capabilities related to their own work - that&apos;s where they ask the most detailed questions and where they project their own use cases.</p><p>Outside of that, I&apos;ve also been dogfooding Recommended Systems, which has been illustrative as to where friction exists, where certain pre-set limits don&apos;t make sense, and where the real value and problem-solving comes from. </p><p>When I started Recommended Systems, the vision and roadmap stemmed from what I saw and needed as a founder and entrepreneur, solving many related but not necessarily overlapping problems. Those are all still valuable problems to solve! But these conversations have exposed the need to simplify and focus on overlapping capabilities and well-defined problems first, with any focus on expansion a distant second. </p><p>So in the spirit of iterative development and being responsive to new information, I&apos;m focusing more on well-coordinated features that resonate with well-defined problems and areas of ownership. I&apos;m particularly doubling down on expanding the competitive monitoring and sales enablement capabilities, which I&apos;ll talk about below the fold. As the cofounder of Dragon Blood Balm, I&apos;ve been doing more sales and outreach to climbing gyms and outdoor/sports-specialty stores. More than once, I&apos;ve had a location ask me, &quot;what&apos;s the difference between you and [x]?&quot;</p><p>With Battlecards comparisons, this becomes really easy to do. You can compare your information section by section to see where you stack up, where the similarities start, and where they end. So I&apos;m excited to finally roll out the Battlecards Template Editor, allowing you to add as many fields as you need. The new field editor is already live, and adding new fields will automatically add them to existing battlecards as well.</p><p>I&apos;m also starting to experiment with better onboarding and help-text designs, starting here at the template editor. </p><p><strong>Coming Soon:</strong></p><ul><li>Drag &amp; drop field sorting (pictured above)</li><li>Add non-text fields</li><li>Show/hide fields per battlecard</li></ul><hr><h1 id="in-the-pipeline">In the Pipeline</h1><p>As mentioned in the beginning, October was more research, less development. We&apos;re still exploring the best design for this, as well as annotating the scans themselves. This allows you to create to-dos, share insights, and make notes to self, and call out interesting things for your team to follow up on.</li><li>We&apos;re launching <strong>Insights</strong> with two initial services: Usability Testing, and Competitive Review. Usability Testing is a way for you to get hands-on testing and reports of your website and app. Competitive Review helps you prefill your Recommended.Systems account with battle cards and radar targets for any competitor you identify. </li><li>All of this is organized through a simple to use <strong>Org Manager, </strong>which allows you to follow your workflow as you see fit. Want to see all of your Radar scans in one place? Easy. Want to drill down into everything you have on a single competitor? Done.</li><li>We&apos;re also going to be launching a public roadmap so that you can see new features we&apos;ll be rolling out to you.
